About the Company
Nopalito Blossoms LLC is located in the small community of Cross Roads, just north of Dallas.
The Nopalito Blossoms name is a nod to my birthplace of Imperial County, California. During summer, temperatures in this desert farming community can easily reach 110-115 degrees. In this environment Prickly Pear cacti are abundant, and in the spring miraculously produce beautiful blossoms that eventually become fruit. The tender Prickly Pear pads or "Nopalitos", and the tasty Prickly Pear Fruit, called "Tuna," are both edible and rich in antioxidants and fiber. I use both in many of my soaps.
I first started making soap with my sister Katy as a means of relaxation while caring for our terminally ill mother. Katy is a successful soap maker and she was eager to share her passion with me.
Katy and I love the fragrance in the desert air after a rainstorm. We did some research and found that the special fragrance comes from the creosote bush, also known as Chaparral. The creosote bush emits a wonderfully clean, earthy scent after a storm, and so our "Chaparral" soap was born.
To this day Katy and I discuss, compare, and exchange soaps and soap recipes.
About the Soap
I make my cold processed soap in small 2-3 pound batches using food grade and/or organic oils. I may also infuse oils with different herbs for their therapeutic properties and/or to naturally color the soap. Natural additives such as Aloe Vera, Prickly Pear Tea, "Tuna", Goat Milk, Oatmeal, Honey and other natural and/or organic ingredients are also used in making the soap. “Prickly Pear Tea” is the water in which I boil the young, fresh Prickly Pear Pads (Nopalitos). The pads release their antioxidant-rich mucin into the water which then goes into the soap.
I create soaps without scent for those who may be sensitive to fragrances, and I also use essential oils and fragrance oils to create scented soaps.
Once the soaps are removed from the mold, they are cut and set to cure for at least 4-6 weeks to ensure a hard and long lasting bar of soap.
The soaps are labeled with all the ingredients used. Soap weights are approximate and are measured after curing and before packaging. The soaps will lose weight the longer they sit. To ensure a long lasting bar of soap, place your soap in a well-draining soap dish so it will dry out between uses.
Or better yet, purchase a Super Sudsing Soap Saving Scrubbie bag! This simple little bag helps create a rich lather and is very useful when washing with the salt bars, which are moisturizing but some may find abrasive. Once you're done with the soap, rinse and hang the bag of soap to drip and dry!!
